Activism & Campaigns

Throughout the history of the labour movement, political and social activism have been forever linked. CEP Local 401 understands that while striving for just and safe conditions in our workplace is of great importance and highest priority, it is enhanced by being active in the community - whether politically or socially.  Below are activist campaigns sponsored by CEP National, the CLC, or other like-minded organizations.

Pharmacare
How many of you take prescription drugs to assist in your standard of health?  It is fair to say that many of us would answer yes to this question?  Of late, groups from all over Canada have been calling for a government-sponsored National Prescription-drug program. This would be the natural enhancement to Medicare where our hospital stays and doctors visits are paid for through the Province.  As we are all so aware, more and more treatments require out of hospital prescription drug regiments.  This cost is becoming harder for those that have insurance, but close to impossible if you do not. Pensions
With the current economic crisis, pension plans - both for private sector workers and public sector workers - are getting crushed.  At the same time, pension laws in Canada are still stuck in the past.  CEP is committed to lobbying all levels of government to ensure that pension plans are not abused by unconscionable pension fund managers and big business interests that are more interested in squeezing working Canadians.  Please become involved by clicking on the link below:
